              A Fashionistas Filling Station

Leave it to the visionaries of Cotton Island to convert an old gas station to a contemporary clothing store. Once where one filled up on fuel, today they purchase jeans, clothing, shoes and accessories. This SMU favorite has been a weekly must see for students needing a break in-between biology and history classes. After 28 years, they are showing no signs of letting up.

Store owner Patty Feinstein hits markets on both coasts several times each and every year. As she recounts, “Hitting multiple markets on buying trips allows me to connect the dots on trends…and it doesn’t take long to see the story for each season.”

Current Trends that keep on giving
“Military look, olive khaki cargo pockets are strong…animal prints are back, lace, the jean jegging is still very strong…dark denim more clean than a few years ago when they were so embellished but it’s much cleaner now.”

“For shoes clogs are strong, ballet flats, riding boots return, cowboy boots, and wedges”

This is when Feinstein shines; as she loves the process of each season’s new looks. Though the store prides itself on being a trend setter in the metroplex, Feinstein stresses, “When I talk about being trendy I don’t mean here today gone tomorrow...wearing trends make a person’s wardrobe new again, just by adding a new little touch, it changes the look. There are some trends that end up being here for many years, for example...metallic accessories. I remember when I came back from NYC and told everyone we were going to be wearing gold and silver shoes, sandals, and handbags. Some people didn’t think it would last but now, looking back it’s been at least 6 or 7 years and it’s still going strong! “

It appears that trend forecasting isn’t the only area Feinstein excels in…not too long ago, Patty opened up in Plano. She comments, “Plano is a great shopping area and lots of people are fashionable and hip. I wanted to offer another option so people didn’t have to trek uptown.”

When asked if jetting takes a toll on her…she’s laughs it off…just as any jet setter would. Some of her favorite moments in New York and Paris are sipping coffee and watching the fashionistas stroll by. “That’s where I really get to see what’s coming and what’s on the way out.”
