Smooth Sailing for SavageCool and reserved but don’t let that fool you for a minute. Interior Design sensation Jessica Savage, works very hard even books out full days. It’s her trademark laid-back demeanor that has clients coming back since 1983. In an industry known for high emotions and sometimes tug-a-wars between spouses, Savage sails above the riff aimed at compromise in concept but never in quality. With a design degree from Oklahoma State University, Savage seems to have been destined for Interior greatness…though it wasn’t an easy journey to the top.
Jessica moved to Dallas in the early 80’s on a job opportunity promised with all of the design challenges any designer could dream of. And for a few months, she did just that. However, just as soon as she had time to get settled, her boss informed her that the doors were closing. To add insult to injury, as a single mom her luck looked like it was soon running out, almost as quickly as it began.
Faced with obstacles, Savage grabbed the bull by the horns and never looked back. Within weeks of the news that she was out of job, she had re-thought her plan, created a new concept and re-emerged as Jessica Savage Interiors. Though the climb wasn’t easy, today she enjoys the benefits of staying the course.
Today half her time is spent consulting on residential and the other in the commercial world. Many of her residential clients have leaned on her to design out their offices as well. It was through referrals and happy customers that her company continued to grow and this time it is all hers.
Trends Savage notices that people, “are cleaning up…less stuff, even on the coffee table”. She senses that this isn’t exclusive to residential and sees it extending to commercial as well. Her inspiration comes from a variety of places and experiences sometimes without realizing it. From the countless magazines to eyeing color throughout the day, her inspiration seems to keep finding a way that translates to her clients.
Trademark qualityEvery designer has a process; and Savage really shines when observing the lifestyle of her clients. Witnessing how a client lives and works, she is then able to design around that. Then, there are the players involved with every client-- the dogs, kids and client’s lifestyles all dictate direction for Jessica. “I find the common elements that link to what meets with the overall vision.”
Wrapping anything up recently?Savage is currently completing a 20,000 sq ft commercial project with much granite, marble & columns…admits, “It’s a nice break from our normal projects and serves as a great design challenge.”
What’s the most exotic place you have visited for inspiration?Nevis Island-- great colors, simple architecture.
With her high level of energy coupled with her laid-back personality, Jessica Savage is a force of talent who will be designing for years and years to come.
