Nothing Tops Café Malaga Tapas!
By Retail Punk Staff
Visit
Café Malaga Tapas restaurant in downtown McKinney and indulge in the
exquisite tastes, it would no surprise that the name sake Malaga, Spain
is also the birth spot of Picasso. When restaurateur Annie Stokes spent
time visiting the birthplace of her grandmother, she fell in love with
the food and the culture. The tapas experience was something Stokes
wanted to bring back to the Dallas Metroplex. It was her goal to
incorporate the atmosphere and the Spanish experience with friends,
family and the thriving Downtown McKinney area.
For Stokes, it’s
a family affair. The Chef, Keith Neaville is her son-in- law. From her
travels she has found that he, in her words, possesses such a natural
pallet that his combinations seem to have no limitations. She gets the
double bonus of being able to work side by side with her daughter.
Stokes was quite pleased to know that double portions (if requested) of
tapas transcended multi-generations. She recounts that her concept
exceeded expectations from its initial appeal that originates from the
Mediterranean Coast.
When asked what makes Café Malaga “Retail
Punk”she replied, “Our concept is one of kind for the metroplex that
offers al fresco dining (eating outdoors) in a relaxed atmosphere where
dining and unique food create an unparalleled experience”. In addition,
the tapas have been adapted to the American pallet while honoring the
comfort zone of fresh and authentic food with unique flavor. The goal
has been to enjoy the atmosphere amongst friends or family including
sharing the authentic dishes.
Recently the restaurant outgrew
its original location. As success and the appetite for tapas grew, it
required Stokes to make another leap of faith. They now offer more
spacious accommodations for larger parties and if you are lucky enough
to be there on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, you will have the added
enjoyment of live music.
Signature dishes include Bacon wrapped dates. Hanger steak grilled over mesquite on a bed of potatoes with smoked paprika chalet & blue cheese aioli
