              The Kitchen Is On Fire!

The Kitchen Source is stacked with talented designers. We were lucky enough to visit with Shylo Preston, a designer who has both a passion for interiors and client kitchen challenges. She doesn’t mind the hot Dallas summers either. That’s because, she went from a cracked car windshield and minus 55 degrees in Calgary, where she is from, to 4 amazing years designing in the Cayman Islands. Ultimately though, she decided on Dallas and who can blame her…we like it here too!

Shylo raises a huge point when thinking about going it alone on designing out a kitchen versus working with a specialist. As a designer, she feels that it is her role to, “Reassure the client and assist in taking away any fear and guide them through the process.” The interesting thing she raises is that most designers seldom get a chance to see the project again after completion. With Shylo, it’s her goal to help see the design stands the test of time.

              Typical day
Though each day can’t be duplicated from the next, Preston finds that she generally works with clients from early stages, just when they are starting to look for ideas and inspiration thus leading to collaboration.

What’s the market doing right now?
Ranges from High Contemporary to ornate French Villa

              What’s Trending?
Preston emphasized that though, “with more clean lines, modern looks are prevalent. It’s more than that. Traditional is still very important… French Country with details but not as over the top.”

              What’s Dallas like for design?
She explains, “Two paralleled concepts in Dallas… worldly and modern meets traditional and classic.” In other words, “The dichotomy of the city can rival any major city with style, art and culture and the grounding of family and history,” she loves it.

Where do your design influences come from?
It’s seems that for Preston it’s more than clocking out at the end of the day, it’s a way of life. She spends time looking at magazines, clocking hours on the internet and wherever she goes inspiration springs in from various places, sometimes without looking for it.

If you haven’t cooked a meal in your kitchen for awhile because you’re tired of the look of it, call The Kitchen Source. They will get you right back into the HEAT of it!
